In Home Assistant versions including that of 4 June 2026, we have noticed that disabling the Bluetooth gateway in the Bluetooth settings does not prevent the gateway from continuing to receive broadcast packets.
Firstly, when connecting an analysis device to HA via that gateway, it is very convenient to use HA’s Bluetooth mapping feature.
We can now observe that if a BLE device is disabled in Bluetooth Settings, In the Bluetooth map, however, it is in fact still receiving broadcast packets from there.
Under the current HA behaviour, even if multiple devices have actually received the broadcast packet, it appears that only one node is assigned to handle it. Sometimes devices move within the node, but they do not seem to capture the packet from multiple sources simultaneously.
However, if you disable it in ESPHome, it will actually disappear, so this is a good way to temporarily enable and disable a node without having to unplug it.
Once you have disabled reactivation, the device will leave that node and will often temporarily move to another node.
